Hike with Homeless Pets and no-kill shelter Grand Companions is partnering with Sibley Nature Center to encourage the community to hike with their pets.
MIDLAND, Texas — The weather was perfect for walking dogs Thursday when the Sibley Nature Center hosted “Hikes with Homeless Pets.”
Grand Companions, a nonprofit organization and no-kill shelter, told NewsWest 9 that it is partnering with Sibley Nature Center to allow area residents to enjoy a hike with homeless pets.
The dogs people are walking with are strays picked up from the Trans-Pecos region.
Not only will you be able to exercise and let your dog outside, but you will also be able to meet potential adopters.
“There have been a few times where we've had the good fortune of adopting a pet or just running out of energy for this particular event,” said Suzannah Koford, Grand Companion's adoption coordinator.
On Thursday, the drone students, who happened to be working at the school's Sibley Nature Center, found themselves getting even more exercise with their new furry friends.
“Basically, it was kind of an accident. We were here to take pictures with our drone and they were like, do you want to walk this dog? We It's a little sad because none of the volunteers came. We were supposed to leave 30 minutes ago,'' said three drone students. “Right now we're walking the dog. What a happy coincidence!”
If you are interested in participating in “Hikes with Homeless Pets,” they are held the first Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Sibley Nature Center.
