WESTAMPTON – Burlington County animal lovers and baseball fans can enjoy both at a special Grand Slam Adoption Event at the Burlington County Animal Shelter.
To celebrate the start of baseball season, the Burlington County Commissioners, in collaboration with the Burlington County Animal Shelter and our friends at the Burlington County Animal Shelter, will host a Field of Dreams Open House on Sunday, April 7th . From noon to 4 p.m., visitors will be treated to the following events: Not only can you tour the shelter and meet the many dogs and cats available for adoption and fostering, you can also play baseball-themed carnival games and snack on hot dogs and other concessions. The game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals will be shown on large screens in the shelter.
The shelter will also feature a special mock baseball game between the Burlington Strays and County Cats. All adoption fees will be waived that day, and each team's honorary mascot will circle the bases each time the team obtains an adoption.
The first pitch of the game will be thrown at noon, and the dog and cat teams will take to the field.
“The Burlington County Animal Shelter has had a great start to the year so far by finding homes for many deserving dogs and cats, so with events like this that can make a difference, We want to keep the momentum going,” Burlington County said. All-star pets available for adoption
Among the all-star pets that visitors can meet and cheer on is Bella, a 4- to 5-year-old Cane Corso who was surrendered to the shelter last summer. Although Bella is an older dog, she loves playing with toys. She is a strong walker and she knows basic commands. She becomes captain of the Burlington Strays.
Joining Bella's canine side is Rusty, a 6-year-old pit bull terrier mix who was brought to the shelter as a stray in November. He knows basic commands and is full of love.
The County Cats are captained by Chucky, a dapper 7-year-old domestic shorthair boy. He was adopted from a shelter three years ago, but was surrendered in February because his owners could no longer afford to keep him. Chucky is very active and brings us toys. He loves people of all ages.
Another standout on the County Cats team is Colette, a 2-year-old calico cat who was found in Burlington Township but never adopted. She is kind and talkative.
“Bella, Rusty, Chucky and Colette are each all-stars who would make great pets for the right families,” O'Connell said. “We hope to bring them home on April 7th, along with a few more teammates.”

More than 310 dogs and cats have been adopted from the shelter so far this year, including a 10-year-old who found a forever home during the shelter's special Super Bowl Sunday Open House on February 11th. This includes Chief, a pit bull terrier mix.
