We just did our annual “Spring Forward” in early March, right? Now, United Way is “in full swing” participating in its annual Spring Health Screening event, held Thursday, April 25th from 8 a.m. to noon at St. Mary's Activity Center, 305 Division St., Adrian. Masu.
One of United Way of Monroe/Linawee County's goals and priorities is to provide access to health care services for all. No reservations required.
Blood panels cost $20 for a series of 22 tests. The main tests offered are a blood panel consisting of 22 tests including a complete blood count, glucose, renal function, sodium, potassium, chloride, carbon dioxide, thyroid function, and total cholesterol check. Vitamin D tests and diabetes diagnosis aid tests are also available. All tests cost between $10 and $20. It is recommended that you fast for 12 hours before the test. Test results will be mailed to the individual's home address. Confidentiality will be maintained. Schmidt Pharmacy's current vaccine supply will also be available on this site.
According to the 2020 Lenawee County Community Health Assessment, there are still 18% of Lenawee County residents who are uninsured. Additionally, 34% of residents do not see a doctor regularly. Health Check allows you to perform health tests at a low cost, even if your insurance has high copays or deductibles. This is a great opportunity for adult residents of Lenawee County to receive a health test at low or no cost. Health checks have helped save lives by discovering diseases such as diabetes and leukemia. Funding for the project comes from United Way of Monroe/Linawee County and ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital, which will provide clinical tests and procedures.
Community partners including Family Medical Center of Michigan, Schmidt Pharmacy, Lenawee County Health Department, First Presbyterian Church of Adrian and Tecumseh, and ProMedica Labs are helping provide staffing and volunteers. The event will also include a drug take-back program to ensure proper disposal of unused or expired medications. Lenawee Substance Coalition and pharmacists will be on-site to assist with this service in conjunction with the Adrian Police Department. Agencies such as ProMedica Diabetes Self-Management, ProMedica Stroke Bureau, Lenawee County Health Department and WellWise Services/Aging 2B Area Agency will also have information tables at the event.
The costs of this project are kept to a minimum by working in partnership. Please share this information with anyone you think needs affordable health screening. For those who cannot afford the $20 blood panel test fee, a limited number of free blood panel test coupons will be provided. For free coupons, contact United Way at 517-264-6821 or contact one of our partner agencies. The annual fall Adrian Community Health Screening event will be held in October (date TBA) at Adrian First United Methodist Church (1245 W. Maple Ave., Adrian, MI 49221).
Another sure sign of spring is golf. Join us as we kick off the golf season with the 4th Annual Lenawee Charity Golf Out on Friday, May 17th at Raisin Valley Golf Club in Tecumseh. The cost is $100 per golfer. To register as a player, visit unitedwayMLC.org. To become a sponsor, please contact me as described below.
