HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Robin Lindsey is the type of leader who rolls up her sleeves and finds a way to meet a need.
Her problem-solving attitude is evident in the multiple nonprofit organizations she founded that serve people and animals throughout the Piedmont Triads.
Every Nose Matters in Piedmont
Lindsey is one of the founders of the nonprofit organization Every Nose Matters in the Piedmont. She and other members provide pet food, transport animals to the vet, and administer rabies vaccinations directly in homes and neighborhoods.
“I always want to help animals out of bad situations,” she said.
Her work also includes animal rescue.
“We often have bad days,” she said. “You're going to see some things that you're going to bring home and you're going to be up in the middle of the night thinking about it, but it's the victory when you put the animal in a better situation that gives you this. ” The adrenaline that makes you feel like you can keep doing this.
Let's go far away
Lindsey's influence extends beyond pets to the lives of families and children. Lindsey has worked as a physician assistant for over 30 years. Let's go far away, stands for Go Out For A Run. GO FAR is based on a running program and fitness curriculum that Lindsey created to address childhood obesity.
“I was really concerned about my children's health,” she said.
Lindsay was inspired to take what she calls the “cookbook method” she used to train for her first marathon and bring it down to a child's level. Through GO FAR, kids of all abilities will learn healthy habits and how to train for a 5K walk or run.
“We have the largest children’s race in the Southeast,” she said.
What once began in one High Point school has now been implemented in elementary schools, middle schools, and after-school programs in North Carolina and other states. GO FAR will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2023.
“We've served over 100,000 children over the past 20 years. It's been amazing,” Lindsey said.
“When you're in a race and you see kids crossing the finish line, teachers in tears, parents hugging their kids, it's very emotional.”
The Every Snout Count fundraiser also supports GO FAR kids.
4 Paws Spay/Neuter Clinic
Lindsey is also starting a third nonprofit organization. 4 Paws Spay/Neuter ClinicThe High Point-based company provides low-cost services to support shelters and meet the needs of feral cats.
The Humane Society of Davidson County is renting the space to the organization for just $1 a year.
Lindsay hopes to have the clinic up and running this August.
