Dr. Paul Geisler will transition from interim dean to permanent dean of the College of Sciences and Health Professions beginning in fall 2024. This change is restructuring Simmons University's four colleges have been combined into six.

Geisler, who joined Simmons as interim dean in 2021 after a career as an athletic trainer, feels his work is most powerful at a small school with liberal arts core values. “Women-centered education is important. Educating people to be independent, successful, and motivated is really interesting, and I’m excited to be a part of that at the undergraduate level,” Geisler said. He said this in an interview with the Voice newspaper.
Geisler said his primary goal at Simmons is to emphasize the integration of liberal arts and humanities through STEM-based education for students in the College of Science and Health Professions. According to Geisler, in his previous career he integrated writing skills with his DEI education and encouraged critical conversation.
Associate professor and biology department chair Jane Lopilato, who has known Geisler since 2021, described the Marietta graduate as “full of energy.” Lopilato emphasized: restructuring Four to six Simmons schools will “raise the profile of the STEM efforts taking place,” including research, clinical rotations, and local internship and work opportunities.
Sophomore Justin Paragas, a pre-health major in public health, received great support from his public health, biology, and chemistry faculty, especially as he prepared to conduct a research project within the biology department. said they felt supported.
“Our students will do very well under his leadership,” Lopilato said. “He looked for opportunities for students, was committed to making everything student-centered, and was always thinking about how students could benefit…If anyone could do it, I thought he could do it.” I am confident.”
