Chelsea and Arsenal have received news of a significantly cheaper transfer fee for Victor Gokeres, with his base price reportedly being half of his £86m release fee.
Gokeres is currently one of the hottest strikers in Europe. He ranks alongside the likes of Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toni, but his goalscoring numbers are higher than the other pair.
In fact, the Swede has scored 22 goals in Portugal's top flight, added another 14 in other competitions and provided 14 assists in all of his football this season.
He also scored in his country's last match, a 5-2 defeat against Portugal.
As reported by Chelsea, There was a scout at that game. They hope they may be able to lure Gyokeles out at the end of the season.
When it comes to Premier League outfits, Arsenal are also on board.
Mikel Arteta's central strikers have not been up to the task and the Spaniard is in need of a top forward who can score goals.
Both teams believed they would have to pay Gokeres a huge £86 million release fee from his contract at Sporting CP.
Do not miss it: If Pochettino has his way and the classy quartet all sign, Chelsea could have a great eleven next season.
Sporting lower asking price for Gokeres
However, according to Gazzetta dello Sportthey would only ask for around half that, as bids could start from around £43 million.
However, there is no guarantee that bids will remain within that range.
In fact, if the starting price becomes much more affordable, it could start a bidding war that could raise Gökeres' tag.
That could be a problem for AC Milan, who are said to have been keeping tabs on the striker even before his move to Sporting in the summer.
With fellow Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic in power at Milan, they feel they have a good bargaining chip, but a signing war would be detrimental to their chances.
Chelsea and Arsenal are in good positions in the signing war
With Chelsea and Arsenal in the 'front row' for Gokeres, this situation could continue if his price starts to rise.
That would be the same as deciding that it would be “impossible'' for Milan to catch up with the English giants in the recruitment war.
With England's finances in good shape, Premier League sides will be able to spend more on a striker.
So it will be interesting to see what happens once bidding starts.
