Rockwall, Texas (March 23, 2024) – Have you ever thought about what would happen if your beloved pet died? Have you made a plan?
Bill Hauser knows that pets become family members, and he's been thinking about this for more than a decade. As a Rockwall probate attorney, he has seen too many situations that don't work out as intended.
Houser shares the story that inspired his new business, Pawzpurr. A few years ago, an elderly couple who were Rowlett's customers died within a few months of each other. Without special provisions for their beloved pet, the couple assumed the surviving family would take the puppy into their home. One family member originally did so, but was only able to do so for a short period of time. Unfortunately, no one else had the resources or ability to care for the other two puppies, so they were placed in a shelter.
“Six million pets are abandoned each year, many due to the death of their owners,” said Misty Potter, who joined Pawzpurr two years ago as president and CEO. “Sadly, about 50% of them are euthanized every year.”
For those of us who love pets, this is a heartbreaking statistic.
Why are so many pets abandoned after their owners pass away? Various factors prevent a loved one from cuddling another pet. In some cases, your pet may not be living with an existing pet or family member. Finances are often the biggest concern.
Pet owners are acutely aware of the financial requirements of owning a pet. Apart from food, grooming, and other daily expenses, veterinary care, vaccinations, or potential illnesses will cost more. Family and friends may want to help, but the realities of the world don't always allow it.
Meeting needs is important to Potter and has been the focus of her career since her days at Rockwall and Boys & Girls Clubs of Austin, and now with Pawspur and her own consulting business.
How can Pawzpurr meet your needs? Pawzpurr provides customers with the guarantee that their pet will be taken care of after death.
Pet insurance and pet trusts exist, but Pawzpurr offers greater benefits. Pet insurance ends when the owner dies, and there are no benefits after that. Depending on the financial means of the owner, the trust funds may be depleted. For subscribers, Pawzpurr promises continuous care for their pets throughout their lives, regardless of the pet's ownership.
A $45 monthly subscription provides ongoing care for your pet's lifetime. When a participant dies, the new owner (often designated by the previous owner) will receive $150 per month for pet-related needs, plus $1500 annually for veterinary care. Masu. This is a considerable advantage.
What happens if the pet owner does not have a designated caretaker? Pawzpurr works with approved shelter resources, and temporary guardians serve as foster parents until adoptions occur. Therefore, if the situation warrants and the pet needs to be put up for adoption, the new owner will receive the full benefit. Pawzpurr calls this Gold Star Recruitment.
Potter will share her own personal story highlighting how Posper was able to help someone in her family. After her father's death, Ms. Potter adopted her dog, Blaise. Unfortunately, Blaze didn't fit into the family dynamic. Looking for a new home, Potter found a young, single relative with no other pets who agreed to take Blaze in. Although she was positive, she had financial concerns given her stage in life. If Pawspur had taken that burden off her shoulders, it would have made a huge difference and probably made her life in her loving home much easier.
“The public response to the recently launched Pawzpurr has been tremendous,” Houser said. We continue to receive feedback that this is a much-needed service.
Pawzpurr is a labor of love for Hauser and Potter, who strongly believe that this organization can meet the needs of pet owners everywhere. Pawzpurr is currently only available in Texas, but they are very enthusiastic about the service and are looking to expand to other states in the future.
