Sul Ross State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean in the College of Health Sciences. The Associate Dean provides innovative and dynamic leadership to the school.
Reporting directly to the Dean of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Associate Dean will provide support and leadership to the dean, program directors, and faculty in the new College of Health Sciences. This position plays a central role in maintaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students, faculty, and staff within the school and in maintaining a collaborative work environment among team members. The Associate Dean of Health Sciences supports an intellectually rigorous, ethically sound, and inclusive academic community in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Key Responsibilities:
- New Program Development – Leads the development of new programs designed based on relevant stakeholder input, needs analysis, and cost projections. Provides academic and administrative leadership regarding the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs. As this is a newly established school, the development of new programs is urgent and important.
- Faculty Management – Oversee, guide, and support the growth and development of department chairs/program directors and faculty. Support university departments in developing faculty job descriptions, recruitment strategies, and search processes. Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from SHS officials, employees, students, regulators, or members of the academic or business community.
- Program Management – Serves as a liaison with the SHS academic department regarding the accreditation and program review process. Meets regularly with program/department faculty and other administrators to discuss and coordinate program operations, development, and evaluation/review activities. Provides materials for special reports and accreditation needs of the university upon request from the university administration. Works with the ALPS Dean to resolve dispute situations related to student appeals, petitions, grading, academic misconduct, program dismissals, faculty/student issues, etc.
- School Planning – Collaborates with faculty, finance, operations, and the ALPS Dean to strengthen, align, integrate, and execute the strategic goals of the college and school. As needed, he will assist the ALPS Dean and Vice President of Finance and Operations in the preparation and implementation of the SHS budget.
- Serve as a member of appropriate college and university committees to represent SHS.
- Work closely with the Office of University Communications to develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan including web-based content, social media, print materials, and other internal and external promotional materials.
- Work closely with the Dean of Research and Sponsored Programs to develop grants for SHS initiatives.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or requested, as required.
Required qualifications:
- Terminal degree in Health Sciences or Biology or related field.
- I have a strong interest in teaching excellence.
- At least five (5) years of professional and/or academic experience at a university related to the performance of the duties of the Assistant Dean.
- A strong commitment to quality academic programs, student achievement, faculty development, and overall university success.
- Demonstrated academic leadership (dean, program coordinator, committee chair, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience in academic productivity and data analysis skills.
- Experience in curriculum design/development and evaluation, and extensive knowledge of university-level management and governance structures.
- Must be able to work directly at the SRSU Alpine campus.
The Faculty of Health Sciences is a newly established faculty within the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The faculty includes the Department of Kinesiology with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Human Performance and a Master's degree in Health and Human Performance and Sports Management, the Department of Nursing with BSN and RN-BSN degree passes, and the newly established Department of Health Research. Contains academic departments. The vision for the new Faculty of Health Sciences is to create a degree in health sciences and also consider adding degrees in fields such as healthcare management and public health as the faculty grows and develops.
