Pet owners want to be sure that the food they feed their pets is safe and of high quality.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Growing concerns about unknown ingredients in commercial pet foods are causing many dog owners to turn to alternatives.
Wof Gang Bakery and Grooming is an independently owned dog bakery located in Midland. Caitlin, a bakery sales representative, talked about the benefits of the sweets.
“When it comes to other treats, there are a lot of single-ingredient treats, and some with up to three ingredients,” she said.
At this bakery, sweets are not made in-house, but by partners who share our commitment to quality and transparency.
Homemade treats use natural ingredients instead of artificial additives, preservatives, and fillers.
Caitlin highlighted concerns about mass-produced snacks.
“Some of the big brands have a lot of recalls and things like that. You don't always know what's in the candy, especially if it's made by a big brand. ”
“Like human food, the FDA requires that all animal products be safe to eat, produced under sanitary conditions, free of harmful substances, and truthfully labeled.” Still, thousands of pet illness complaints may be reported to the FDA each year.
Homemade options allow pet owners to see what they are feeding their pets.
