SMITHTOWN, N.Y. — Cannoli, estimated to be about 8 years old, has been named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's “Pet of the Week.”
The shelter says she is a “beautiful and affectionate” black and white short-haired domestic female.

“Mr. Cannoli has endured the unfortunate circumstances of losing special people in his life twice through no fault of his own,” the shelter wrote.
She was first surrendered to a shelter when her beloved owner moved into an assisted living facility.
“Cannoli was adopted for the second time, but returned to Smithtown Animal Shelter heartbroken after her owner passed away unexpectedly,” the shelter wrote. “Despite the challenges, this wonderful little cat is friendly, sociable, and ready to find her final forever family.”
According to the shelter, Cannoli is a “delicious and sweet girl'' who melts people's hearts.

She is very comfortable around people, cares about attention and TLC, and enjoys being both the giver and the receiver.” Cannoli It's perfect for almost any household, from large families with children to households with other people, cats, and even gentle dogs. ”

All cats at our shelter are currently vaccinated and have undergone a thorough examination by a certified veterinarian, including blood tests, feline HIV and leukemia testing, and physical exams.
Current business hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with reservations required on Sunday and Wednesday nights.

Smithtown Animal Shelter's main concern is finding the perfect home for each animal. Smithtown Animal Shelter's animal control staff and kennel staff do everything they can to help both the rescuer and the rescued. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member to the shelter or set up a meet-up at your home so that the potential new addition can meet other family members. You can also see how they interact with their pets, or family members. .
The shelter is also looking for volunteer foster parents. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens, and dogs in their homes. Some animals require as little as two weeks of care, while others require long-term care.
