HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – An open house will be held at Holyoke Community College (HCC) Wednesday night for prospective students to see the wellness program and available careers.
It was to give people an idea of what a career in health care is like, not just animal care, human service, and the culinary arts. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the university's simulation lab and interact with faculty and staff, as well as gain valuable information about the student support services offered.
Amy Brandt, dean of health, education, culinary arts and human services, told 22News it is important to attract more people into these fields. “Instead of relying solely on doctors to do everything, nurses, physician assistants and other professionals can now provide a wide range of care to patients,” Brandt said. “As the population in certain regions increases, we need more health care workers.”
Although the nursing program is a long-standing program at the university, some programs have changed over time. In particular, the expansion of human services is progressing. Last year, grants were awarded to help train and enter the workforce for students.
