Threads has taken another step towards becoming an alternative to the old Twitter. Starting today, Meta-owned Threads is adding the ability to view trending topics within the app. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said in a Threads post that the feature is initially rolling out to users in the United States, and will likely be made available to other regions around the world at a later date.
Mosseri's post reads: “We are now broadly rolling out the Trend Now feature to people in the US. We are excited to offer an easy way to see what others are talking about in threads. This feature is available on the search page and the search page for you feed, so please try it out and let us know what you think. ”

While this feature can help discover popular topics and increase thread engagement, it can also be controversial. Anger drives engagement on social media sites, and trending topics can also become controversial by driving more people to those topics. Although Threads has repeatedly tried to distance itself from news and political content, features like Trending Topics are driven by that type of content.
Threads has gradually gained parity with X over the past year. The Meta-owned service recently added the ability to bookmark your favorite posts, edit them, use them on the web, and save drafts within the app.
