San Diego, March 20, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The University of San Diego Free Enterprise Institute (FEI) is exploring family business initiatives at the University of San Diego Knaus School of Management. The program supports family businesses by providing learning opportunities and mentorship to existing and potential family businesses. Innovation is a top focus of the new program, which leverages USD's substantial capabilities in commercializing innovation through the Blink SBDC and the San Diego Angel Conference.
The USD Family Business Initiative will host an educational event about family philanthropy and foundations at USD on Tuesday, April 9th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This event is ideal for family-owned businesses interested in making a meaningful impact in their communities through philanthropy and will feature speakers, panels, and roundtables. Reservations are required for this.
The USD Family Business Initiative provides practical solutions for family businesses, including counseling and education on implementing new and expanding product lines, integrating new technology, approaches to operations, financing, and financial planning. Succession planning, classes, mentoring, and networking for family businesses are offered on a regular basis regardless of your affiliation with USD.

The family business initiative operates within the University's Knauss School of Business's Free Enterprise Institute, which also currently houses the San Diego Angel Conference, Blink SBDC, and Catalyzer. The co-chairs of the USD Family Business Initiative are USD alumnus Chris Yount and Dr. Jeremy Lurey of the Family Business Consulting Group.
Chris Yount is a family business expert, experienced CEO, and advisor with deep experience in buy/sell-side M&A, brand marketing, manufacturing/distribution efficiency, corporate restructuring, general management, and strategy.

Dr. Lurie has 25 years of progressive consulting experience, working with high-net-worth individuals, midmarket companies, and Fortune 500 companies to drive better results.
