A friend of Duchess Meghan has revealed the meaning behind the name of the Duchess of Sussex's new lifestyle brand.
Last week, the “Suits” alum, 42, unveiled his latest business venture to the world, a passion project dubbed American Riviera Orchard.
A source close to the duchess said the name was a nod to Santa Barbara, California, which has been nicknamed the “American Riviera” for more than a century.
This is also where she and her husband Prince Harry live with their two children.
“Meghan feels the name American Riviera Orchard is perfect. It feels authentic to her. She can't wait for the website to launch,” a source told People magazine. , adding that the name was “perfect” for Markle.
The source added that the lifestyle brand “will reflect everything she loves: family, cooking, entertaining and home decor.”
“She's excited about her latest personal venture,” the source added. “This is something she's wanted to do for a while. She's excited to share her personal style and what she likes.”
American Riviera Orchard's website is currently blank and only asks visitors to enter their email if they would like to receive notifications from the brand about “products, availability, and updates.”
Additionally, the trademark application reveals that the brand plans to sell tableware, drinkware such as decanters, kitchen linens, and edible treats such as jellies, jams, marmalade and spreads.
The trademark application is awaiting review and is seeking approval for the cookbook.
The brand's bio reads, “From Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.”
She also posted videos on her Instagram Story of herself picking flowers and cooking in the kitchen.
This isn't the estranged royal's first lifestyle adventure. In 2014, Markle launched a lifestyle blog called Tig, where she shared “recipes, travel tips, and personal photos documenting her adventures.”
The website was shut down in 2017, and she married Prince Harry the following year.
Since unveiling their new brand to the world, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been subtly demoted on Buckingham Palace's official website.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's profiles are currently posted at the bottom of the royal family webpage, which lists all members of the royal family.
