Kate Veenstra, DNP, MSN, RN, CNL, CMSRN, ACM, NEA-BC, was recently named the new chief nursing officer at the University of Michigan HealthWest. Her more than 18 years of experience also tells a valuable story.
Ms. Veenstra began working as a bedside nurse at the hospital in 2006 and has held a variety of positions from associate head nurse to most recently interim head nurse. Throughout her career, Veenstra has been an advocate for her teams and patients, leading efforts to significantly improve care and productivity.
One of her most notable accomplishments was co-leading a clinical nurse program that helped reduce readmissions and hospitalizations for heart disease. She also joined the clinical care team during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Veenstra is passionate about the success of West Michigan's nurses and has been involved in nurse development.
