LIMA — A local store filled with beloved animals is closing its doors. Dot's Pet Center in Shawnee officially announced its closure on Friday. The business has been in the community for more than 30 years, according to the company's website. Owner Evan Nieto purchased Dot's about five years ago.
“During the pandemic, people were forced to buy things online instead of going out and shopping. We were deemed an essential business and had to fight for it. Due to the many mandates imposed, distribution centers were forced to operate at 50% capacity. Food was in short supply and people could only find pet food online.”
Naito also said that right after the pandemic, the store was in business until about two years ago, but sales at the store decreased due to people buying pet supplies online. Once the announcement was made, Naito encouraged the community to continue shopping and supporting local businesses.
“We knew we had a great team and a great product,” Naito said. “When it comes to personalizing our customers, we bring dog food to people's cars and try to differentiate ourselves. At the end of the day, I look at it from an economic perspective. Purchasing products from our city’s brick-and-mortar stores directly benefits our city.”
The store has not yet decided on a specific closing date. Nate said Dot's will remain open until supplies last.
“It's sad that Dot's has to close,” Nate said. “At the same time, I am grateful for this opportunity. Over the past five years, I have built some of the best relationships and worked with some of my best friends, whom I have come to call family.” , I had two little girls and I have so many memories of this place.”
The company will also offer discounts on products for customers. For more information, call the store at 419-991-6113 or visit dotspetcenter.com. The store is located at 3565 Shawnee Road.
