President Biden is scheduled to sign an executive order on Monday aimed at expanding research and improving government efforts on women's health, a move scheduled to coincide with the White House Women's History Month reception.
The White House said the president's executive order “ensures that women's health is integrated and prioritized across the federal research portfolio and budget” and focuses on the administration's women's health research initiative. Ta.
Biden also plans to announce more than 20 actions for federal agencies outlining how to prioritize research on women's health.
The executive order directs agencies to strengthen research and data standards related to women's health, with the goal of making better use of federal funds. It also directs government agencies to prioritize funding for women's health research and foster innovation.
Biden's order would then direct the Office of Management and Budget and the Gender Policy Council to assess gaps in federal funding for women's health and identify potential changes.
In addition, the President and First Lady Jill Biden will announce more than 20 commitments and actions through the Department of Defense, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Its efforts include launching a $200 million direct investment initiative in fiscal year 2025 to fund new women's health research. Biden has previously called on Congress to create a fund for women's health research at the National Institutes of Health.
The signing of the executive order comes as the president and first lady are scheduled to host guests at a White House reception commemorating Women's History Month. This also follows the first lady's announcement in February of $100 million in federal funding for women's health research and development through the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H).
