Pennsylvania's tourism industry generates $76.7 billion in economic impact, supports 486,871 jobs, contributes $4.7 billion in state and local taxes, and will grow by 2022, according to a report from the Pennsylvania Department of Tourism. It welcomed 192.4 million tourists.
The 2022 Travel and Tourism Economic Impact Report provides state-, regional-, and county-level estimates of the importance of the travel industry to Pennsylvania's economy.
“This report shows that tourism is a key economic driver in Pennsylvania, injecting billions of dollars into the economy and funding transportation, infrastructure, education, public safety programs, and other vital services provided by the commonwealth. It clearly shows that we offerCarrie Fisher Lepore, Deputy Secretary of Tourism at the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), said in a statement.
“Each Pennsylvania household will have to pay an additional $880 in taxes to supplement the tourism industry-generated taxes received by state and local governments in 2022. We recognize the important role we play in Pennsylvania’s economy, as evidenced by the $15 million funding increase proposed in the 2024-25 budget.”

Tourist spending supported jobs, incomes and business sales, generating $9.6 billion in government revenue. In 2022, state and local taxes amounted to $4.65 billion, an increase of $458 million from 2021.
Guest spending increased by $4.8 billion, with more than 66 million trips generating $28 billion in spending. Overnight travelers spent $419 per person, an increase of $31 from 2021. Spending on day trips increased to $17.3 billion.
