houston – The crooks who broke into a car parked outside a Montrose home did more than just steal change and some electronics.
Sonia Soto said the remains of her late dog Mimosa were among the items stolen by criminals last week.
“The most frustrating thing is that my dog just passed away and I picked up her ashes and they took them away,” Soto told KPRC2's Gage Golding. “I don't have kids, so the dog was my baby, and she was my baby.”
Her pint-sized pup is one of her two best friends, or dogs.
Mimosa died, and Soto had her remains cremated. She picked them up last Saturday, the day before they went missing.
She worked late at a house near the corner of Whitney and Fairview streets in Montrose. When she woke up and got in the car for her job, she realized there were other people in the car.
“While I was in the car, I noticed something wasn't right. I noticed the glove compartment was open and things were tilted,” she said.
The car was locked behind the gate of the house and there was no easy and quiet way to get in.
“Our pedestrian gate [makes a] There was a pretty loud squeak,” she added. “A dog was barking, but this is Montrose and there were people walking, so I thought it was just barking.”
Ever since this happened, she has been searching every street and sidewalk for Mimosa's body.
“I keep driving and walking around the neighborhood looking to see if someone figured out what it was and threw it away.”
Here you can help her. According to the International Cemetery and Crematorium Association, if your pet's remains are cremated, an ID tag must be included with the ashes.
“Each pet receives an identification tag as soon as it arrives at the cemetery. This tag remains with the pet from the time you receive it until the remains are returned to the owner,” the organization says on its website. Says.
So if you find a wooden box with a small bag of what looks like ash, it could be mimosa.
“Please return my baby's remains. It means a lot to me,” she said.
That includes the person who originally received them.
Sonia: “It makes me happy. I want to reward them.”
gauge: “Really?”
Sonia: “I would.”
