He lost his girlfriend and as a result reached a weight of 141 pounds.
Nithun Puvirajasingam, 27, gained 97 pounds during the COVID-19 lockdown, going from 220 pounds to 317 pounds.
He claims his girlfriend left him because she couldn't bear to see him “eat to death.” That's when he decided to get his life back on track.
Currently, he weighs 176 pounds and works as a personal trainer in London.
“The last three years have been consistent for me. I have never taken more than a week off,” Puvirajasingam declared to SWNS. “I feel great. I can't imagine going back to that lifestyle.”
Puvirajasingam says she used to be very sporty and loved to exercise.
He played rugby and went to the gym frequently, until the pandemic hit and he and everyone else were stuck at home.
“I started gaining weight. I didn't meet any friends or family. I just stayed at her house and mostly ate and smoked,” Puvirajasingam said of his now ex-girlfriend.
Puvirajasingam said the woman, who has not been identified, did not want to see him destroy himself.
“She couldn't watch me eat and die. That's natural,” Puvirajasingam explained. “She said if I didn’t change she would quit, but I didn’t change.”
Puvirajasingam said she had very dark thoughts, always wore oversized jackets to hide her weight gain, and avoided meeting friends in the aftermath.
After two weeks of despair, he decided he needed to turn his life around.
Starting in February 2021, I gradually reviewed my eating habits, quit smoking, and started exercising.
“I bought resistance bands, a bench, dumbbells, a barbell, set up some mirrors, put down some rubber flooring, got a boxing bag, and slowly started getting back into my routine,” Puvirajasingham says. Go to social media to motivate yourself, share and post photos of your progress.
Three years later, he's built a body that looks straight out of Hollywood and earned his personal training license.
“I don't even know him anymore,” Puvirajasingam said, reflecting on the breakup. “I was grateful in a way because it gave me the push I needed to get out of my comfort zone and prove everyone wrong.”
A person weighing 155 pounds can burn up to 800 calories in a one-hour boxing class, reports Women's Health UK.
In addition to boxing, some people have recently succeeded in losing weight by practicing taekwondo, walking 10,000 steps a day, and jumping rope.
