HERSHEY, Pa. — A newly relocated Penn State Medical Group practice near the Millersville University campus now offers patients more convenient access to primary care in a brand new facility. The Penn State Department of Health partnered with Student Lodging Inc. to build a new outpatient clinic near Millersville University to serve the Millersville community and surrounding areas. Today, leaders from Penn State Health, Student Lodging, Millersville University and Highmark Health celebrated the opening of Penn State Health Medical Group Millersville with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“Student Lodging, Inc. is excited to partner with Penn State Health Medical Group to build this state-of-the-art facility for the benefit of the Millersville community. Through projects like this, Student Lodging, Inc. continues a long history of improvement, enhancing the Millersville University experience and community,” said Jeffrey Beers, CEO of Student Lodging Inc.
Penn State Health Medical Group – Millersville is located next to the university campus and offers primary care, sports medicine, and on-site laboratory services. The new 11,000 square foot building features 19 exam rooms, two specialty treatment rooms, ample parking and a student health suite. It is home to about 20 health care providers and support staff who relocated from the former Penn State Health Medical Group's Manor. Future plans include providing Millersville University students, faculty and staff with convenient walk-in service through a separate, private entrance.
“The health of our students, faculty and staff is of paramount importance,” said Millersville University President Daniel A. Uber. “Both students and employees benefit when we have facilities within walking distance that are accessible to the entire campus community.”
This is another step in the long-term goals of the Penn State Department of Health and Highmark. Ensure that everyone in the communities served by the department has access within 10 minutes of a Penn State Department of Health primary care provider, within 20 minutes of a specialty care provider, and within 30 minutes of a Penn State health facility. That is what it is. State Health Acute Care Hospital. Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center will open in 2022 and complement the health system's other efforts to provide Lancaster County residents with care closer to home.
“We are excited to open our first outpatient clinic near our campus,” said Ruth Gunderman, senior director of outpatient services at Penn State Medical Center. “Making health care more accessible to students is part of our promise with Highmark Health to bring our care closer to where patients work, live and learn.”
In December 2017, Highmark and Penn State Health announced they would jointly invest $1 billion in the health and well-being of central Pennsylvanians to maintain local health care.
