Central California Health Alliance, a medically managed care plan serving residents of Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Mariposa and Merced counties, announced the appointment of Dr. Omar Guzman as its new Chief Health Equity Officer. .
Guzman is a board-certified emergency medicine physician who brings experience and contributions to community partnerships and health equity initiatives, according to a release from the coalition.

Holy Cross students honored
Three students from Holy Cross School in Santa Cruz took second place in the Catholic Academic Junior Decathlon held in Menlo Park.
Laurent Rolland won second place in the religion category, Nico Barville won second place in the science category, and Leo Lee won second place in the mathematics category. The Holy Cross team placed 3rd overall in the Super Quiz.
The team competed with Catholic schools across the country on a variety of tests, including logic, social studies, science, math, religion, art, literature, and more, as well as a superquiz with questions across all disciplines.
Other members of the Holy Cross team included Eva Cowden, Leah Michaelis, Daisy Coonerty, Opal Petersen, Gus Care, William Robinson, and Caetano Franz.
New Omega Nasu
Melissa Cullinan, Nikki O'Hara and Nancy Ross were welcomed as new members of the Santa Cruz Chapter of Omega Nu at an induction ceremony in January.
Omega Nu Santa Cruz is a volunteer organization serving this community since 1903. Omega Nu Santa Cruz donates to local nonprofit organizations, supports education through college and vocational scholarships, and allocates funds toward classroom materials for local public elementary and middle schools.
