March 8th is International Women's Day, which celebrates the progress women have made over the years. Sisters Jessica Ellis and Whitney Kamish are beacons of success among Omaha businesswomen. Since its founding in 2012, this organic pet supplies company has become a household name. “If you're determined and you want to do it, just go for it. Start somewhere and work towards it,” Kamish said. Starting a business came with challenges. But the sisters grew up watching their mother run an optometrist's practice. Her drive to succeed led them down the same path. Success passed from dog to cat, with Felius Cat her cafe's president and founder, Brephalean. She also says that although it was difficult at first, she received a lot of encouragement from her team and mentors. “It takes a village of people to continually push you to overcome these barriers. I think that's the case,” Farean said. Farean says owning a business as a woman brings a different perspective. “I think empathy is a huge component in everything we do with animals and humans. I certainly think women tend to have more of that empathetic approach. I think that's a huge asset. I think so,” Farean said. “They're there to support you. I find that in Omaha, other women love to lift other women up. That's so great to be in this community.” Farian said. Felius will expand and move to Dundee next month. The new building will allow him to start a local cat supply shed and extend the hours of custody for cats belonging to women seeking asylum from domestic violence.
