SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – One local kitten could make a name for herself on the national stage.
Bubbles, a cheerful and sociable 8-month-old, is vying for the top spot in this year's America's Favorite Pet contest.
“Bubbles is one of those animals that deserves to win,” said owner Nancy DeLaVergne.
“She came from being born outside to not knowing how her life was going to turn out.”
Bubbles, along with her mother and siblings, was adopted as a stray cat by one of Delavergne's friends. When two other orphaned kittens joined the litter, Delavergne said Bubbles helped her mother clean and care for her.
“If it doesn't feature incredibly adorable animals, I don't know what will,” Delavergne said.
But it's not all about the bubble. Delavergne, who has lived in the Savannah area for seven years, said she hopes a win will give her a chance to promote the Hostess City.
“Savannah is already on the map, but we want Bubbles to promote our great city,” Delavergne said.
Bubbles isn't the only local animal to be named America's favorite pet. In the dog category, rescue dog Elma Jean advanced to the quarterfinals.
“We're excited that rescue dogs and Bubbles are poised to become top pets in their respective categories,” Delavergne said.
Bubbles advanced to the “Wild Card” round. That means she still has a chance to win $10,000 and be on the cover of Modern Cat magazine.
