After months of shorter days, colder temperatures, and grayer skies, in spring many of us actively seek a change of pace when it comes to getting ready in the morning. Personally, around this time of year, I find myself less excited about my favorite neutral colors and instead reach for colors that energize me in a bold and purposeful way.
There's nothing wrong with neutral colors, but who doesn't love a capsule wardrobe-qualified classic? Spring's combination of warmer weather, longer days, and increased UV radiation tends to shake us out of winter hibernation mode and inspire us. To push the boundaries of our personal style. This is especially true when it comes to color, an attribute that greatly influences our clothing choices throughout the season. Winter is all about texture, summer is all about silhouette, and what about spring? Spring finds the color of its wings.
As Spring 2024 collections and pieces hit the runways and in stores, a few color trends are standing out from the crowd. Some are on par with what you'd expect, but some are definitely a shake-up from past spring seasons and the pastel associations we all have at least to some degree in our subconscious. You'll be seeing these seven colors everywhere this spring.
cadmium red
It's no secret that bright, bold red has long been our coveted color. From shoes, accessories, and clothing to lipstick that would be approved by both Marilyn Monroe and Taylor Swift, this color appears everywhere in our everyday attire. Bright maraschino red (also known as cherry red or cardinal red) is popular this spring. Stay on trend with bright red tops, shorts, and pants. If color is bolder than your usual styling preferences, opt for red hair bows and shoes to add some excitement to your outfit. Red sneakers, in particular, have become a coveted item for fashionable girls around the world.
powder blue
Ever since the new 2024 planner was released on January 1st, powder blue has been a top choice. Fresh and feminine, this shade has always been a particular favorite of mine. This may have been influenced by my childhood love of “Cinderella” and the moment I wore the “perfect dress” for the first time. Don't hesitate to incorporate this color into every element of your outfit this spring, from sheer knits to romantic dresses to eye-catching shoes.
lilac
Lavender was the “it” color a few years ago, but now its lighter shade of lilac is moving forward. True to the pastel hues most of us associate with spring, this shade is perfect for dressing on a sunny day. Embrace the simple, chic trend by pairing a lilac skirt or pants with a neutral top you have hanging in your closet.
gray
If you're a neutral or nothing girl, there's no need to panic. You don't have to rock bright reds or lilacs to feel on-trend this season. It probably doesn't seem instinctive, but rocking gray during spring is a super easy outfit and a super chic way to approach your spring outfits. Do you ever have a day when the weather is unpredictable? Wear a lightweight gray cardigan or women's jacket over your favorite top. Are you heading to the office? A light gray blazer looks professional and can be easily combined with brighter or more luxurious accessories.
Perhaps it's no surprise that metallics aren't going away anytime soon. In fact, our love for glossy shades lives on. Silver is currently the popular metallic, but gold is also suitable and can add warmth to your spring ensemble. Metallic accessories and shoes can instantly transform any outfit from boring to eye-catching. Both are approachable ways to try out the trend if you're not ready to leave the house wearing a metallic midi skirt or trousers.
burgundy
personally? This caught me off guard, and maybe you feel the same way. This moody, classic hue has historically been considered the most appropriate for fall and winter. But that's not to say I'm not here for it. There's something undeniably timeless and elegant about the shade of deep red. If you're wondering how to incorporate this color into your everyday look, consider adding burgundy shoes to your wardrobe, which is especially popular this spring. Pick up your burgundy boots, ballet flats, or sneakers and sandwich your look with a coordinating top.
butter yellow
Butter yellow has emerged as a must-have color this fall, making a notable comeback after recent winters. It's an incredibly soft and muted shade, so you can embrace the trend by treating it as essentially another neutral shade in your arsenal. Butter yellow pants pair well with a variety of tops and shoes. This creamy-hued everyday dress might just be the refreshing change of pace your wardrobe needs at the end of winter.
