LONDON (AP) – Chelsea fans turned their attention to Mauricio Pochettino as they watched their team struggle to a 2-2 draw with west London rivals Brentford in the English Premier League on Saturday. .
The Blues took the lead in the 35th minute through a Nicholas Jackson header, but were pushed back in the 50th minute by Mats Roersleb's close range shot.
After Yoan Wissa put Brentford ahead in the 69th with a stunning overhead kick, the away fans began chanting former manager Jose Mourinho's name and chanting for Pochettino to go.
“I've been told that, but to be honest, I didn't listen. It's difficult for me to understand,” said the Argentine coach.
“But that's normal. We were losing the game 2-1, so they were expressing their dissatisfaction. I'm one of the people in charge, the coach.”
Chelsea saved a point on Pochettino's 52nd birthday when Axel DiSasi headed home Cole Palmer's cross.
The points meant Chelsea finished 11th in another disastrous league campaign and Pochettino's first season.
Pochettino said: “I was asked earlier if I feel the love from the fans, but no. I'm not worried. We have to accept this relationship.'' You win relationships by winning games.
“I want to continue to work hard and change this perception. We need to manage some reality. We work hard to win games and the team We're fighting. If it doesn't work out and the fans are disappointed, I have to respect their opinion.”
