A person and his pet are looking for a new home after a fire broke out in Kansas City's Northland on Sunday. Kansas City Fire Department responded to a call of a house fire at 8 a.m. in the 5200 block of North Smalley. Firefighters at the scene reported the condition to be serious. They smoked on arrival and began internal attack operations. Firefighters also discovered heavy fire in the basement, which then spread through the walls and into the attic. An inspection of the structure revealed everything. Residents and pets were able to voluntarily evacuate safely. The Red Cross placed an order for one adult and one dog. Dangerous buildings were also ordered. The cause of the fire is under investigation by KCFD.
