The Erie County Health Department participated in its annual “Give Kids a Smile” event on Feb. 27, providing needed dental services to 50 children free of charge, according to a news release.
This annual event aims to address dental health disparities among underserved youth in our community, the release states.
The health department hosted the event at its state-of-the-art dental facility at the Erie County Community Health Center, 420 Superior Street in Sandusky.
According to the announcement, the youth received comprehensive dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments and education on proper oral hygiene habits.
The team worked tirelessly to ensure each child received personalized care and left the nest with brighter smiles and healthier teeth, the release said.
“We are excited about the opportunity to positively impact the oral health of children in our community,” Erie County Health Department Director Peter T. Shade said in a statement. Stated. “Events like Give Kids a Smile strengthen our commitment to ensuring all children have access to quality dental care, regardless of their socio-economic status.”
The Erie County Health Department encourages families who are unable to attend to ask questions about two dental safety net programs.
These two programs will provide free or low-cost dental services to eligible children and adults, ensuring that no one goes without essential dental care, the release states.
