(stacker) – As health care jobs increase across the country, scrubs could become an essential part of the wardrobe for millions more Americans.
The aging population of the United States is rapidly increasing demand for many jobs in the health care sector, the fastest growing sector of the national economy. Many health care jobs require advanced degrees, such as doctors, nurses, and surgeons, but this rapidly growing role in most states is generally open to anyone with a high school diploma. The United States expects to add nearly 1 million jobs in this profession over the next decade. These aides monitor and support people with disabilities and chronic illnesses, including in hospice care. They often work in private homes, group homes, and day service programs.
Fewer Americans want to live in a nursing home as they get older, a survey found after the coronavirus pandemic devastated nursing homes. As a result, more families may find ways to utilize full-time or part-time home aides for end-of-life care.
In an analysis that included more than 70 other health care workers, all but three states were projected to hire the most home health and personal care aides. In just three of her states, Colorado, Florida, and South Dakota, job growth for registered nurses outpaced home health care growth.
As a percentage of current jobs, the roles that are seeing the most growth are slightly more diverse. Most commonly, 40 out of 50 states and Washington, D.C. are seeing the most job increases for nurses.
For example, in Arizona, the number of job openings for nurses is expected to increase by 100.8% over 10 years. In other words, the number of job offers will be doubled for her. Job openings for massage therapists are increasing the fastest in six states, with the biggest change seen in New York with a 75% increase. These statistics provide insight into how jobs are changing compared to current employment.
