Current Finance Director Brian Perry was hired by the Board of Selectmen in 2019. Perry served in this position in Wilmington for five years. At the time of his hire, Perry said his experience in the private industry, serving on the North Andover Board of Appeals and lastly as Lowell city auditor, prepared him for the position. He told the Minton Apple newspaper.
As Finance Director, Perry also serves on the Town Manager Selection Committee and interacts with all Town department heads.
The Board of Selectmen is responsible for hiring the Town Treasurer/Town Accountant. I am also in charge of hiring town managers and town counselors, and am currently in the process of hiring a permanent town manager.
The board's process for hiring Mr. Perry included advertising the position and accepting applications, establishing and convening a search committee that included board members, reviewing resumes and conducting preliminary interviews; It included conducting interviews, creating a short list of candidates for the board, and the board meeting. Interview those candidates and vote to make an offer.
Another priority at the time was to ensure a new finance director was installed before the previous one retired, said then-town Mayor Jeff Hull.
The board did not mention Mr. Perry's resignation, nor did it receive any correspondence informing him of his resignation. However, in order to follow the established process previously used, a review committee should be established to review applications received at the time the job opening closes.
Perry declined to comment to the Town Crier at this time.
It is unclear at this time whether he will remain in his role long enough to enable his transition to the new finance director role.
