As Verstappen began to flee from his pursuers, Mercedes' George Russell made a move in Turn 4 to relieve Ferrari's Charles Leclerc from second place, before Carlos Sainz joined up with his Ferrari teammate, Red Bull's Sergio Perez. 4 cars were scrapped. Leclerc soon lost position again to Perez after a series of lock-ups.
Sainz had insisted to Ferrari that he was faster than the players in front of him, but he took matters into his own hands and pushed Leclerc away at Turn 1 on lap 11, leaving Leclerc behind as the risk of contact increased. I managed to escape in turn 2. .
During the first round of pit stops, Perez put on the harder C1 tires and made quick use of them, passing Russell out of Turn 4 and making it a one-two for Red Bull. Leclerc held off Sainz and regained track position, but the Spaniard regained fourth place at the opening turn of lap 17.
At his second pit stop, Lewis Hamilton undercut to pass McLaren's Oscar Piastri and move into eighth place, then a few laps later passed Fernando Alonso's Aston Martin.
However, Russell in the other Mercedes ended up dropping down the order and had a big lock-up and wide moment at turn 10, so Leclerc completed the move at turn 11 and moved into fourth place on lap 46.
It was a very easy win for Verstappen, who recorded the fastest lap and gained up to 26 points, with Perez and Sainz rounding out the podium.
