strange but true
Taking bold action is faint at the center.
And while it's no secret that most brides want to look sexy once they're legally married to the love of their dreams, this newlywed couple literally couldn't stand the heat.
“I said, 'I'm going to pass out,'” the bride, Katherine Franks, 28, a speech therapist from Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, said in a trending TikTok video that has been viewed more than 500,000 times.
Kennedy News and Media reports that the blonde's preview was announced shortly after saying “I do” in near 100-degree temperatures during her July 7, 2023, wedding to her teacher groom. Those were the last words she remembers whispering to Alex, 26.
“The next thing I knew, I woke up and there were boots all over me,” Franks said. “My father and husband were wearing cowboy boots,'' she said, collapsing from extreme heat and dehydration.
Just before spilling, the blushing bride tried to ignore the signs of impending health problems and hoped the marriage would be okay.
“When you go to a wedding and head to the ceremony and you’re standing at the altar watching everyone, you start to feel a little dizzy,” she said.
“We just said, 'I'm getting married,' and I think we were waiting for the final prayer, so technically we were married,” Franks added. “[But] We stood there for about 40 minutes. ”
The long pomp and atmosphere in front of 300 guests, combined with the warmth of the day and the glow of the church lights, made the new wife dizzy.
“My husband knew something was wrong and kept looking at me,” she said. “I started having tunnel vision and getting really lightheaded.”
Franks ended up collapsing three times as the lightning-struck wedding attendees gasped and widened their eyes in shock. Alex, her bridesmaids, and her worried onlookers rushed to her aid, fanning her as she fell to the floor.
“Everyone was here watching me, so I was trying to rebuild myself,” she said, adding that securing her position as a new fighter was more important than worrying about health concerns. He admitted that it was a priority.
“I thought, 'I just have to get up and finish it.'”
Franks added: “My husband was really worried about me.”
When Alex, whom she met at Hinge in 2022, told her about the harrowing moment, friends and family scrambled to get her water.
“He told me, 'It's okay, it's going to be okay.' He really chastised me for being so flustered,” Franks said.
After regaining her composure, Franks' ceremony went off without incident until she was on her way to the wedding reception venue.
But when a dizzy Belle hops into a rented school bus to push her around on the big day, Franks is struck by illness for the second time.
“I didn't faint again, but I felt sick,” she said. “I felt sick on the bus, but then I felt fine all night.”
But after toasting holy matrimony at a party, Franks sought medical attention after loved ones repeatedly asked her if she was safe.
“I actually went to the emergency room the next day because I think I had a little bit of a virus and I was pretty dehydrated,” she said. “I was miserable at the time, but now I look back and laugh. It's funny now.
“It was such a memorable day! It's now a family joke.”
And Franks, who is expecting a baby girl in April, plans to pass on her misfortune to the next generation.
“This will be a funny moment that I will be able to share with my daughter for years to come!”
She's not the only woman who literally fell in love with a man when they got married.
Holly Linnea Kolenda Darnell, a 2021 bride from Florida, passed out, vomited and pooped during her eternal vows.
And a groom named Brad from Texas fell off a roof after drinking too many drinks during a reception in September 2023.
“Blood! Blood! Blood!” his companions cheered as the shirtless and inebriated man was thrown onto the sidewalk.
In the end, he broke both wrists.
