Arsenal legend Ian Wright is taking aim at Britain's top pastry company by launching his own line of rival pies.
The Match of the Day pundit, 60, has high hopes for the roast chicken, sage and onion creation he's releasing as part of a new food and lifestyle brand called Uncle Righty.
This limited edition pie is inspired by his 'love of London, football and Sunday roasts' and will be available across London and through his collaborative partner Willy's Pies online retailer. Foodies will soon be able to taste it.
Wright has been secretly working on the Uncle Righty brand for two years, which he says embodies his “spirit, joy and connection to community” and his trademark Baker Boy hat.
The former England striker said: “Eating together is a very sociable and simple thing that can change the way you look at life.”
“Every day, or at least every once in a while, is a chance to get together and try something new or make an old favorite.
“But more than that, it gives us a chance to talk face-to-face and hug each other, rather than just talking on the phone.”
His first-ever pies come in both large share and individual “convenience” formats, catering to both the ready-to-eat and bake-at-home markets.
On Friday, Mr Wright will take over Chef Brian Danclair's upscale Brixton restaurant Fish Wings and Tings and serve 100 pies to the lunchtime crowd.
Wright's next project will be a collaboration, this time with Anglo-Caribbean chef Marie Mitchell, which he teases is an homage to his heritage and culinary experiences growing up.
The former Crystal Palace star's new venture comes two months after he announced he was stepping down from appearing on Match of the Day.
He debuted on the long-running soccer program in 1997 while still a player, but joined as a permanent pundit in 2002 after retiring two years earlier.
He left the show in 2008, but returned in 2015 and became the first father-son critic team to appear on the show last May, along with Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Ms Wright is also a regular pundit on ITV soccer coverage, covering both the World Cup and European Championship, as well as being a leading advocate for women's football.
He currently appears on Gary Neville's podcast 'Stick To Football' and his only successful podcast brand 'Wrighty's House'.
His new food and lifestyle business is not the former Arsenal's all-time top scorer's first venture away from football.
In 1993, he helped Arsenal win the FA Cup and League Cup double. In the same year, he released his debut music single “Do The Right Thing'', which reached number 43 in the charts, and also became a successful presenter on Light Entertainment TV. built a career. .
He fronted his own ITV chat show, BBC1 game show Friends Like These in 1998, as well as hosting Sky One's original Gladiators reboot and Channel 5's early afternoon show Live From Studio 5. in 2021, he went on to helm another game show called Moneyball on ITV1.
