Salt Lake City (ABC4) – Happy Wednesday, Utah! Usually it’s the last day of the month, but this month we have an extra day because it’s a leap year.
In any case, February will end in mild conditions, so no moisture will add to the wonderful water month. When we are standing, we are sitting in seat number 5.th After receiving more than 2 inches above average, February was the wettest on record.
A cold start will be followed by sunny, seasonal days and a further warming trend, ending the week before any further changes occur.
Daytime high temperatures will be near seasonal averages under mostly sunny to cloudy skies. Northern Utah has a mix of people in their 30s and 40s, while south-central Utah sees mostly people in their 40s and 50s. St. George will be an exception to the low 60s. It will be cold again tonight, but not as cold as last night.
Stronger southerly winds are expected to bring temperatures even warmer above seasonal norms on Thursday, about 5 to 10 degrees warmer than today.
Temperatures will be a little warmer on Friday, similar to Thursday, but the mild weather will be gone. The system will move in from the west, resulting in a chance of showers across northern Utah, with the highest chance of rain falling along and north of I-80. Given above-average temperatures, if we have rainy weather, it will rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains.
Another strong system will move into the Beehive State this weekend, bringing widespread rain Saturday into Sunday. Showers will start as rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains, but as temperatures drop behind a strong cold front, snow in the valleys will become more likely, especially late Saturday into Sunday.
The National Weather Service has already issued a winter storm watch for the northern Wasatch Mountains, which will be in place from Thursday night into Saturday night. In terms of duration, alerts may expand as the weekend approaches. stay tuned!
