GREENVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – Various Greene County schools recently received grants to purchase new Career Technical Education (CTE) equipment.
North Greene High School and Greenville High School use their facilities to teach students how to start and run their own businesses.
“Kids are starting from scratch. We teach them how to come up with a design, how to order a product, how to create that product and take orders,” said Tanna, CTE teacher at North Greene High School.・Mr. Stansfield said. She will “teach you how to create purchase orders, invoices, merchandising, graphic design, and more.”
North Greene students are currently creating a new school store called Huskie Prints. Each student has a specific job within the company, with some students creating shirts and others promoting products.
“They understand that it's not just about buying a T-shirt and making this, they need to know how to make money to stay in the business,” Stansfield said. Told. “There are a lot of kids here who can one day become entrepreneurs and make things and sell things in this community.”
Greenville High School uses CTE equipment in a similar program to teach students. The school has had a store for students for years, but students now run the counter and make the products.
“They're going to see that when you buy something directly from someone from a wholesaler and make it in-house, the costs are definitely lower,” said Cody Bo, a marketing and business teacher at Greenville High School. says. “They're seeing how quickly things can turn around.”
Hank Hope, a senior at Greenville High School, said he is learning how to promote products by taking a job in advertising for a student store.
“You design the ads yourself and you kind of promote when you bring something new into the store, like a new shirt or hoodie,” Hope said.
Stansfield told News Channel 11 that she plans to use the laser engraving machine she received from the grant to teach her students how to make different products.
