Cell phone outages occurred across the United States on Thursday morning, affecting more than 70,000 customers. The issue apparently started on AT&T's network, but it has also affected customers using Verizon and T-Mobile. The problem is serious and is impacting emergency services like 911. The reason for the outage has not yet been revealed, but there is no indication it was intentional or malicious.
Yet everyone seems to be saying the same thing: Netflix's recent post-apocalyptic disaster movie, leave the world behind, starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke, begins with an apparent cyberattack disabling a satellite and bringing down all communications. Given that things in the movie only got worse from there, some people online are either suspecting panic, actual panic, or a combination of both. To make it even more relevant to the conspiracy, leave the world behind It counts Barack Obama as one of its producers (although the story is based on a novel by Rumaan Alam and was not touted by the former president as a prophetic warning or anything).
