Spearfish, South Dakota – Black Hills State University (BHSU) is now featured prominently on billboards in New York City’s Times Square thanks to its victory over South Dakota Mines (SDM) in LG’s “The Rivals” Campus Clash competition.
The historic rivalry between BHSU and SDM, spanning more than a century, has caught the attention of LG, leading to the selection of the two universities for this fall's Campus Clash competition.
The contest invited BHSU and SDM students to create short videos explaining the importance of one of the NCAA's longest-running Division II rivalries. After two rounds of voting on each campus, BHSU was crowned the winner, with student Noah Westergaard leading the Yellow Jackets to victory and earning the title of October Campus Clash winner.
As part of winning this challenge, BHSU received a custom video introducing the university produced by Emmy Award-winning film company JayByrd Films. The Jaybird film he shot in early December on the BHSU campus where he stayed for two days. As the winner of the competition, director Westergaard was involved in the entire filming process. The completed video will be released on BHSU's social media platforms on January 16th, will begin airing in Times Square on January 30th, and is expected to be viewed approximately 60 times each day until its final airing date, March 29th. .
