Ivy Tech students studying advanced manufacturing on Advantage Shelby County scholarships will have the opportunity to study in an advanced manufacturing lab through an apprenticeship co-op. The equipment will also be used to introduce advanced manufacturing careers to Shelby County high school early college program students through Ivy Tech.
Manufacturing is Shelby County's largest employer by industry. As of 2022, more than 4,600 Shelby County residents will be employed in manufacturing, making up more than 19% of Shelby County's workforce, according to STATS Indiana, the state's statistical data utility.
Additionally, Indiana Economic Growth Region 5, which includes Shelby County, is expected to add more than 7,000 total production jobs per year by 2031, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
