The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has condemned a viral video purportedly showing some people protesting the current economic hardship in front of his palace.
On Sunday, the emir said in a statement titled “Reaction to the viral video” signed by his spokesman Abdulzees Arowona that no such protest took place inside the palace.
The viral video was part of an event in the run-up to the 2019 general election, the statement said.
The statement read: “It has come to our attention that a video is circulating on social media platforms in which some people are seen shouting and lamenting their poverty and destitution in front of the Chieftain’s Palace in Ilorin.
“We would like to affirm that the video in question is part of the events that characterized and were witnessed in the run-up to the 2019 general elections.
“This video has nothing to do with the current situation in the country and on such occasions, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has always spoken on this issue. Please remember that you are expressing your concern.'' The need to ensure that peace and harmony continue to prevail in society.
