(WISH) — This is this week's featured podcast on the All Indiana Podcast Network.
This week on “Positively Patty,” we're all positive about our pets. The latest episode of “Positively Patty” delves into the dangers of certain flowers and their toxicity to cats and dogs. Indy Neighborhood Cats Executive Director Dawn Benefield discussed the issue with host Patti Spitler.
During the holidays, many people bring seasonal plants into their homes. Dorn says many people don't even think about it. “Everyone knows that lilies of any kind are highly poisonous to dogs and especially cats…but you wouldn't think of something like carnations or tulips.”
Patty says dogs aren't as mischievous as cats.
“Cats like to go up and look at things and chew on things, and some cats are really bad at it,” Spitler said.
Flowers that are toxic to cats include:
- Lily.
- tulip.
- Amaryllis.
- azalea.
- Buttercup.
- chrysanthemum.
- narcissus.
- Gladiolus.
- hydrangea.
- iris.
- Oleander.
- peony.
A complete list is available online.
These flowers can cause symptoms in your furry friend such as vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, heart problems, and lethargy.
