WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A new apprenticeship program has officially begun at WSU Tech and Bombardier.
During the two-year program, students complete hands-on training at the company's Wichita location and take classes at WSU Tech.
“More hands-on with airplanes. Most of them work on big jets right away, so they go on to work on small airplanes in school and come here, so they can get both sides. And work on things like Global and Challengers,” WSU technical intern Isaac Kuder said.
WSU Tech students have the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors and aviation maintenance leaders. Upon completion of the practicum, the student will have earned her FAA A&P certification.
“This is not a production environment. This is a service working on certified aircraft flying all over the place, so you get to see different things that aren't the same every day. It's a great opportunity and I'm excited to be a part of it. It's an honor,” said WSU technical intern Brandon Storey.
The student's position will transition from a Bombardier apprenticeship to a full-time A&P technician. This is a paid apprenticeship and the first state-registered A&P technician apprenticeship program in Kansas.
