ATLANTA — The University System of Georgia's Board of Trustees has approved a $74.5 million dormitory renovation plan for Georgia Tech.
Tuesday's board meeting included several action items, including renovating the Smith and Howell dormitory on Georgia Tech's campus.
From now on, the halls built in 1947 and 1939 for Smith and Howell, respectively, will typically be used as first-year residence halls on the east side of campus.

The project is currently approved and will cost nearly $56.45 million to construct, according to USG officials.

As proposed, “GIT proposes to completely renovate the hall, create a central entry point to the building, and construct a new connecting structure that will provide additional learning and social space.'' According to documents on the BOR's agenda, the $74.5 million will come from subsidized housing revenue within the overall project budget.
The renovation project would improve Americans with Disabilities Act access to all floors, upgrade building systems and add approximately 18 beds to the property's attic, according to proposal details.
Additionally, the project is part of a multi-year plan to renovate historic first-year dormitories on campuses in the area, and will also allow for the construction of a new first-year dormitory building, which is currently in the design phase. Masu.
