JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Humane Society celebrates the start of Love Every Pet Week by sharing the story of Nix, a very special girl who was rescued for nearly a year before being diagnosed with a chronic health condition. To do.
Nix is a soulful, golden-eyed 8-year-old with a bubbly personality who loves exploring and cuddling. Shortly after she arrived at JHS in April 2023, the JHS team noticed that Nix's girlfriend was not in the best of health. “She was lethargic, not eating, and was suffering from incontinence,” JHS said. stated in a news release.

Now cured of Cushing's Syndrome and with newfound energy, Nix is living a wonderful life and enjoys going on adventures to the beach, exploring walking trails, and cuddling. Nix is patiently waiting in middle school for a new loving family who will provide her with the home she dreams of and deserves.
After testing by the JHS veterinary team, Nix was diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome, a condition caused by hormonal imbalance. Although Cushing's syndrome is relatively rare in pets, it can cause symptoms that affect quality of life. The JHS team worked diligently to develop a treatment plan for Nix, and fortunately, Nix is now able to live a happy life with daily medication.

“Stories like Nix's prove that it is community members who make the life-changing changes in the lives of shelter pets. Each pet not only survives; Without their support in providing the compassionate care he needs to thrive, Nix's life would have been very different. Thank you to everyone who goes out of their way to love all pets. We are deeply grateful to all of you,” said JHS CEO Dennis Deisler.
