CAMDEN, Ark. — One person was injured in a shooting Tuesday night behind Highland Park Hall on the Southern Arkansas University Technical College campus.
The campus was immediately put on lockdown and emergency services were called to the scene.
The injured person, who is not a SAU Tech student, was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
“Student safety and security is of paramount importance. It is extremely unfortunate that an off-campus incident would spill over and put the campus community at risk. The health and safety of our students and staff remains our priority. ” said Vice President for Student Services Dr. . Ed Rice.
The investigation is being led by campus police, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and state police. There is currently no evidence of an ongoing threat to campus.
“I am proud of the quick actions taken by the State Police, Calhoun County Sheriff, Campus Police, and first responders. Thanks to the emergency responders and SAU Technical Crisis Management Team, we effectively managed the situation and ensured safety.” “We've been able to keep it a part of our campus,'' said SAU Tech President Dr. Jerry Thomas.
