Want to know the easiest way to instantly add zest and vibrancy to your living space? Consider giving your walls, ceilings, doors, and trim a fresh coat of paint. In fact, choosing next year's popular trending paint colors can breathe new life and visual appeal into your home, making it look fresh and contemporary.
“Paint colors evolve over time, just like fashion trends. Staying on top of the latest color trends will help your home look modern and stylish. This can be especially important if you plan to sell your home in the near future,” explains Sheila Gholami Leatham, owner of Premier Painting Palm Coast.
“Color also has a huge impact on our mood and the atmosphere of a room, creating a sense of warmth, tranquility, or energy,” she said. “And our paint color choices reflect our personalities and styles. Looking for new popular colors allows us to express our individuality and experiment with different aesthetics.”
Homeowners often look to the “color of the year” selections released by various paint manufacturers and brands, usually towards the end of the previous year, for inspiration and ideas.
Some of the 2024 Colors of the Year (COY) are listed below.
• Persimmon (SW 6339) by Sherwin Williams, an earthy terracotta tone named by HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams.
• Upward (SW 6239) is the actual 2024 Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year.

To give your space the sparkle it deserves, We recommend using it anywhere and everywhere,” says Ashley McCollum, color expert at Glidden in Pittsburgh. “As an interior color, it pairs well with all four walls, accent walls, trim, and cabinetry.”
Renew Blue, on the other hand, is “perfect for bathrooms and bedrooms, bringing tranquility to these spaces,” says YouComfort Editor-in-Chief Carol Wilson. “And cracked pepper is a versatile shade used to create a cozy atmosphere in living rooms and bedrooms.”
Elizabeth Vergara is particularly into the latter, COY.
“Cracked pepper is a moody color that not only brings an element of sophistication, but also establishes a chic and cozy atmosphere in your home,” she says.
Roman Smolewski, owner of A + Construction & Remodeling, is a fan of 2024's deep, muted blues, warm, muted golds, and rich greens with teal undertones.
“I also love Valspar’s Lilac Whisper (4003-9A), a muted purple that exudes creativity and calm, and Sherwin Williams’ Canyon Clay (SW 6054), a rustic terracotta that frames spaces and brings warmth to kitchens and entryways. I recommend it,” he says.
In fact, Leatham added, he expects earth tones like warm terra cotta, deep olive greens and rich browns to continue to dominate next year.
“Soft neutrals such as muted grays, bluish pinks and creamy off-whites continue to be in fashion, creating timeless and versatile backdrops for a variety of rooms, from the kitchen to the home office,” says Leatham. Masu. “Also, gemstone colors like emerald green, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple can add a touch of luxury and drama in 2024. Use these colors as an accent wall or on a small wall, such as a powder room or entryway. Consider using it for your space.”
Interior designer Nicholas Kaiko names Sherwin-Williams Amber (SW6146) and Dan-Edwards Limelight (DE5516) as worthy candidates for your walls and surfaces in the coming months.
“Amber taps into the red-brown trend and brings richness and depth, making it suitable for dining rooms. Limelight, on the other hand, is a vibrant, energetic yellow that complements small spaces like mudrooms and laundry rooms. We can reinvent ourselves,” Kaiko said.
Make sure to repaint major areas of your home regularly. Leatham recommends cleaning every 3 to 5 years in high-traffic areas such as living rooms, kitchens, and hallways, every 5 to 7 years in bedrooms and less frequently used spaces, and every 3 to 4 years in bathrooms, and every 5 to 10 years. We recommend repainting the coat every year. Exterior surfaces have been used for years.
“Don't be afraid to experiment with different paint colors. Before deciding on a color, paint a sample on a small section of the wall to see how it looks in certain lighting conditions. When in doubt, consult a professional interior designer or color expert for personalized recommendations,” recommends Leatham.
