Akron Children's Health System announced that Akron Children's Health System has brought its intensive outpatient program to its freestanding behavioral health center located at 1027 S. Trimble Road.
Partial hospitalization programs are designed to move children and teens in the community away from inpatient psychiatric treatment or transition them from inpatient treatment to their homes. Akron Children's says its goal is to help young people improve their functioning, stabilize their mental states and develop healthy coping skills that last into adulthood.
PHP is intended for children between the ages of 12 and 18. The five-day-a-week program includes individual, group and family therapy, and the average length of stay is five to 10 days, said Derrick Martin, clinical operations supervisor for outpatient and intensive services. states. “We teach youth skills to change problem behaviors, improve relationships, and cope with stressful situations,” Martin said. “New skills are reinforced through education and training, group sessions, goal setting, and expressive therapy groups. Parent involvement is an important and essential element.”
Time is set aside during the day for participants to spend on schoolwork.
PHP providers use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based psychotherapy, to treat mood disorders and influence behavioral patterns.
