Oregon State has had success recruiting in California, especially under head coach Dan Lanning.
In the 2024 cycle, the Ducks signed seven of the top 17 recruits in the state. All of them were ranked within the nation's top 300 in his On3 industry rankings. Golden State's 2025 class has special caliber, with nearly 20 prospects in the top 200 in the country.
Near the top of that list, and Oregon's recruiting committee is an elite linebacker Nasir Wyatt Mater Dei is from the powerhouse Santa Ana (California). The Monarchs have been a talent factory for the past decade, and this year appears to be no exception. Wyatt is one of the best players at his position nationally, and the Ducks are making him a top priority.
And it seems to be paying off. Oregon is trending big on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) after updating the latest candidates from other parts of the recruiting industry. This follows an update from his On3 recruiting director, Chad Simmons, who wrote on Thursday:
“Nasir Wyatt will have another successful visit to Oregon State. Mater Dei, a linebacker from Santa Ana (Calif.), has been to Eugene three times, all of which were good visits. It has become. Dan Lanning And the staff did a great job with Wyatt and his family. The Ducks are an early favorite. He is not expected to make a decision until after his official visit.
Ducks competing against top programs in the country
Wyatt already has offers from more than 25 Power Five programs, including some of the best, including Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, and Oregon.
The in-state University of Southern California, which has accepted him more than any other program, is also expected to influence his long-term recruitment.
But the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder likes the aggressive defense practiced by Lanning and Tosh Lupoi and the idea of being on the West Coast.
If the Ducks are able to add him to the 2025 class, he would be a major defensive addition. Oregon, like every program, has been recruiting on the defensive line in recent years, both through recruiting and the transfer portal. But the next step is adding an elite linebacker like Wyatt.
The Ducks currently have four commitments in the 2025 class, all on the offensive side of the ball: 4-star receiver; dallas wilson4-star quarterback Akili Smith Jr.4-star wide receiver Adrian Wilson and offensive linemen sandman thompson.
