A few weeks ago, Texas football hosted its first big Junior Day of the offseason on January 20th. Texas State and head coach Steve Sarkisian hosted more than 50 visitors from the 2025, 2026 and 2027 freshman classes for Junior Day festivities in late January.
Among the highest-rated 2025 visiting recruits who arrived in Austin on Junior Day on Jan. 20 was Dorian Belew, an elite five-star cornerback from Conroe (Texas).
Junior Day was Brew's first visit to Texas since the Longhorns offered him last spring.
Breuw, who traveled to Texas for Junior Day a few weeks ago, had set his decision date for late January. He was thought to be heavily tilted toward the Ohio State Buckeyes entering his commitment date in late January.
However, Texas made a big impression on Brew during his Junior Day visit. The success of the Junior Day visit was likely a factor in Belew's decision date being postponed.
After visiting Texas on Jan. 20, he told Inside Texas that he felt “wanted” and “a priority” to the Longhorns' staff.
Texas clearly impressed Brew during his Junior Day visit. He spent much of his visit with safeties coach Blake Gideon and Sarkisian. This personal experience and attention showed how much Brew is wanted by the Longhorns as a potential cornerstone defensive back in the 2025 class.
On3's Chad Simmons reported on Feb. 8 that Texas is “buzzing in early February” after a “strong visit” for the Longhorns' Junior Day. Ohio State has moved down Breu's short list in recent weeks since Breu visited Austin on Jan. 20.
Another school at the top of Brew's list along with Texas is the USC Trojans. Brew traveled to Southern California on Jan. 27 to meet with head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans.
Texas is one of the top schools vying for Brew's contract early this offseason. Simmons said in the report that Texas has “become a trending school” for Brew in recent weeks.
Although this recruitment is still in its early stages, Texas is in a great position as Brew enters the spring visiting season.
The Texans need to set themselves up for success with this addition during the remainder of the offseason and coming fall. Brew moved from Ohio to Conroe, Texas, just north of Houston, last year.
