Supporters of a movement to turn back the clock on Alaska's voting laws are appealing more than $90,000 in fines imposed by the Alaska Public Service Commission.
Friday, Alaskans for Honest Elections, Ranked Choice Education Association, Wellspring Ministries, Arthur Mathias formally appealed In Anchorage Superior Court.
The appeal alleges that Alaska's campaign finance regulators erred when they fined the four people for participating in the system. He sent campaign funds through an organization registered as a church in Washington state..
The Commission has not yet filed a response to the appeal.
Since APOC issued hefty fines for campaign finance law violations, regulators have also imposed three additional fines on Honest Elections Alaskans for filing financial disclosures late.
Alaskans for Honest Elections is calling for an end to Alaska's open primary and ranked-choice voting laws and a return to the state's voting system. Voters approved Ballot Measure 2 In 2020.
Last month, Alaskans for Honest Elections submitted tens of thousands of signatures to the Alaska Department of Elections to put the repeal initiative on this fall's ballot. Election officials are reviewing the signatures and plan to make a final decision on the initiative by a March deadline.
