MUSKEGON, MI – March Madness is just around the corner for high school basketball teams across Michigan. Being able to hit your stride at the right time can ultimately be the difference between winning the hardware and going home early.
Today, let's take a look at some of the Muskegon area girls basketball teams that are trending in the right direction as they prepare for the postseason and present the latest MLive Muskegon Girls Basketball Power Rankings.

The Big Reds have won six straight games, won 10 of their last 11 games and have a two-game lead in the OK Green Conference standings. They play Reese-Puffer (6-9) and Zeeland East (4-11) the following week, then on Feb. 16 against Zeeland West (10-5) and Wyoming (12-0). An important league match will be held against Japan (4 losses). And 23.

Heart (10-3)
The Pirates have won seven of their last eight games, with their only loss coming last week against Holland Christian (54-51). Last season's state runner-up team has regained more balance through rotations over the last month and is on a roll in time for Friday's showdown with Mason County Central. A win over the Spartans would put Hart in prime position to close out the Rivers Division of the Western Michigan Conference.

Spring Lake (12-3)
The Lakers have won five straight since losing to Holland Christian on Jan. 24 and are back in contention for the OK Blue Conference title. They'll get a chance for revenge next week in rematches against both Holland Christian (12-3) and Grand Rapids West Catholic (14-1).

Fremont (12-3)
The Packers suffered a tough loss to Maury Stanwood (69-66) last week, but bounced back with impressive wins over Oak Ridge (54-33) and Montague (55-45) and have won nine of their last 10 games. Secured. They will have a favorable schedule over the next few weeks until a rematch with Ludington on Feb. 27 that will likely decide the Western Michigan Conference Lakes Division title.

Kent City (11-4)
The Eagles have won six straight, including a 44-31 road win over Mason County Central last weekend. They remain two games behind Grant in the CSAA standings, but are scheduled to play the Tigers on February 16th and Heart (10-3) on February 13th.
